Geofinder

One number in, one pin out

Can Geofinder put that number on a live map?

You give the number you already have. Geofinder traces the handset behind it, puts the GPS position on a live map and shows the reverse lookup next to the pin.

Run the trace

The number is the only thing the trace needs.

the thread below the question

Someone hands you a phone number and nothing else. No name on it, no account, no screenshot. The whole question is whether those digits can become a place you can see.

Three answers, folded. Open the one you want.

  1. What you get back from one number

    • The pin. The handset's GPS position, put on a live map you can pan and zoom like any other map.

    • The reverse lookup. What the digits themselves carry, read back next to the pin instead of in a separate tool.

    • No country wall. The number goes in with its country code, wherever the handset is.

And how does a phone get located at all?

A handset is placed by what it already talks to: the satellites above it, the towers around it, the Wi-Fi names in range. Most phones mix those three instead of trusting one (Mobile phone tracking, Wikipedia). A trace reads that chain and stops at one point.

  2. Where it runs

The trace opens in the browser. There is nothing to download on either side.

    Android phoneNot neededYes
    TabletNot neededYes
    LaptopNot neededYes

The traced handset is a phone number to the trace, not an app.

  3. What gets asked first

What do I need before I start?

The number, written with its country code. No name, no account on the other side, no screenshot of anything.

Is there an app to install?

No. The trace runs in the browser you are reading this in, on the phone in your hand or on a laptop.

Why a reverse lookup as well as the map?

A pin tells you where. The lookup tells you what the number itself is, so the place on the map has something attached.

Does it have to be a number from my country?

It does not. The trace takes the number in international form and works from there.
